Bc. Jan Kratochvíl started as a lecturer of primary prevention and worked as a leading outreach worker with youth at risk in Prague, Žižkov. He actually begins with leading a work-rehabilitation program Café Na půl cesty. He likes Roma, punk and rising of social worker’s salaries.

Community in the social services

The social workers in the NGOs are the latest in the agenda. At first, there is public politics, professional skills, a good name in the organizations we work in, community plans, strategic plans, PR, care for the users of the services… We have lost somewhere the needs of social workers and their dignity. Why do qualified educated social workers have salaries only a bit higher than is the poverty line? Why we do not defend our rights enthusiastically alike we defend different public interests? Why is nothing happening, when everyone know and speak about this situation?

Workshop will be conceived as a reflection over our needs in work and possibilities, how to fulfill them in everyday practice. I will be definitely interesting to explore the direction on how to work with the community of other workers, who share similar problems and how our needs come forward collectively.
